Evolution: Neanderthal Man
Neanderthal man (Homo sapiens neanderthalensis) got his name from where his remains were first found in Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in Germany. Since then many additional fossils have been found in other parts of Europe, Asia, Israel, and Africa. They buried their dead, made tools and weapons just like people today. 150 years ago Neanderthal reconstructions were stooped and very much like an 'ape-man'. It is now admitted that the supposedly stooped posture was due to disease (Rickets) and that Neanderthal is just a variation of the human kind. They were said to dominate Europe as Ice Age glaciers advanced southwards between 70,000 and 30,000 years ago.He and Cro-Magnon man may have dwelt in caves, but the Bible does give insight to this. These would have been the descendants of those who were scattered at Babel "children of fools ... children of base men: they were viler than the earth", who fled "into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste". They were "driven forth from among men", perhaps from other tribes who may have had to compete for the most desirable regions of the earth. These were not evolving upward but rather they had decayed from a higher state morally and spiritually and became degenerate, and sickly, and soon perished from off the face of the earth.
"For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste. Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat. They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;) To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together. They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth" (Job 30:3-8).
Conclusion: Neanderthal is now considered by most to be man. It is only the artists conception of Neanderthal that would leave one to believe he is a hairy, dumb looking, club carrying beast. If one would give him a clean shave and put a suit on him he would look very much like modern man. Place him on a busy street of New York and no one would take notice of him.

On the Neanderthal finds, German pathologist Rudolf Virchow (1821-1902) declared, "The curved leg bones were the result of rickets (vitamin deficiency)...the knots of bone above the eyes had been caused by damage to the skull, and other special features of the skeleton were the result of arthritis deformans." (Wendt, Herbert. From Ape to Man, NY: The Bubbs Merril Co., 1972).
Dr. Francis Ivanhoe has claimed that the teeth of Neanderthal Man show specific evidence of rickets (caused by a Vitamin D deficiency) and that x-rays of the bones of Neanderthal Man show the characteristic rickets ring pattern. He further reports that every Neanderthal child skull studied so far has signs associated with severe rickets: a large head with a high, bulbous forehead, late closure of bone junctions and patches of defective bone, and poor teeth. Neanderthals were human. They had a complex social structure, employed language, played musical instruments, "wielded simple tools, wore body ornaments, had religious rites and ceremoniously buried their dead" (Time, 3/14/94, p. 87). Neanderthal anatomy differences are extremely minor and can be for the most part explained as a result of a genetically isolated people that lived a rigorous life in a harsh, cold climate.
