We have also seen that the Word of God, as well as secular history, confirms that astrology and idolatry originated in the Tigris-Euphrates valley where Babylon is located. They worshipped the sun, moon and stars, and other aspects of nature and made idols to worship them.

The key point we would like to emphasize, however, is that the religion of Babel was thoroughly implanted in the earth's population before their language was confused, then they were scattered “abroad upon the face of all the earth” (Genesis 11:9) forming the nations of the world. As a result, wherever they went, they made for themselves little colonies of Babel, building cities and replicas of that original “tower”, crowned with temples to house their gods.

We also made a brief survey of two post-Flood cultures, Egypt and Canaan, and saw that the inhabitants of these nations were the direct descendants of the rebels at Babel. Therefore, these two nations are a well documented example of the culture that spread out from Babel.

We also saw how God dealt with Israel for tolerating and then incorporating the religions of these nations. God had forewarned Israel time and again not to intermingle with these nations, nor to make any covenants with them, or to give their children in marriage to them, for they would turn their children away from worshipping Him. However, slowly but surely, they drifted away from the Lord's commandments and suffered the consequences of their rebellion.

With these things in mind, let us now move on with our investigation concerning the Mayan and Aztec nations and see what connection, if any, they may have had with the ancient world of Babel, and thereby unlock the mystery that appears to shroud their origins.
